Microsoft adds Picture Dictionary to Edge Immersive Reader, here is how to enable it

Most web browsers except Chrome offers Reader Mode feature for users to read articles in a clutter-free view without ads, menu and navigation toolbars, Microsoft Edge Legacy and new Edge have this feature built-in. Microsoft is now offering “Picture Dictionary” Reading preference for Edge Reader View behind a flag in Canary version, here is how you can enable it.

New Edge’s Immersive Reader aka Reader View, allows us to read a page loud, change, text size and spacing and the page background color. The  Reader View also features Grammar Tools and Reading preferences, wherewith the former, you can highlight all verbs, nouns, adjectives, and adverbs, with the latter, you can focus your reading on one line or three lines or five lines at once. Latest Microsoft Edge Canary has got a new feature for the immersive reader, follow the instructions given below to turn it on.

1. Launch latest Edge Canary 83.0.472.0 or later

2. Visit edge://flags/#edge-reading-view-picture-dictionary

3. Select Enabled and restart the browser

Here is how the Picture Dictionary works in the immersive Reader: when you select a word, a Picture will be shown what it is.

Using Picture Dictionary in new Microsoft Edge

1. Visit any web page that contains more text, click on Immersive Reader icon in the address bar or use the shortcut F9,

2. Click on the Reading preferences option on the toolbar and enable “Picture Dictionary”

3. Select or click on a word to see Edge popping up a Picture for that word.

Note: Google Chrome has Reader Mode feature available behind a flag, visit about: flags page, search for Reader and enable the related flag and restart the browser to start using the feature. Do note, the feature is still in development and to see the new features Google is adding to Chrome’s Reader Mode, you should be using the Canary version.
