Yesterday we’ve covered Chromium Progressive Web Apps, particularly, Chrome PWA Icons on Windows, and Android have got the support to show common tasks through the new Shortcuts menu feature. Now latest Microsoft Edge Canary 84 has received the support for the same.
PWAs, unlike Native Apps on Windows, doesn’t show common tasks when you right-click on their icons on the taskbar, Microsoft Edge team has worked with Google to bring Shortcuts Menu for PWA Icons to Chromium. Initially, the feature will support on Android, with the desktop platforms to follow.
You can now see how the feature working in the new Microsoft Edge browser, for that,
1. Ensure you’re using Microsoft Edge Canary 84.0.513.0 or later, launch new Edge browser
2. Head to edge://flags/#enable-desktop-pwas-app-icon-shortcuts-menu

3. Select Enabled
4. Restart the browser
5. Visit PWA demo site Sadchonks
6. Click on the PWA indicator in the address bar to install the app.
7. Once installed, right-click on it on the taskbar to see the new Shortcuts menu that shows New Chonks and Saved Chonks under Tasks.

Microsoft offers the following description for the flag: “Enabled Installed PWAs to include a menu of shortcuts associated with the app icon in the taskbar on Windows, or the dock on macOS or Linux.”
