Microsoft has worked with Google to bring the Shortcuts menu to Chromium Progressive Web App Icons on Android, Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome OS.
Native App Icons on Android, Windows, Linux, and Mac display common tasks in a menu when you right-click on the quick launch bar. Progressive Web Apps installed on these platforms don’t add these tasks to their icons when you right-click on them.
For instance, on Windows 10, when you right-click on the Chrome icon on the taskbar, you’ll notice tasks to open a new window and incognito window.
The progressive Web Apps or PWAs when installed on Windows add shortcuts to the desktop, start menu, and taskbar, but don’t offer the tasks on their icon on the taskbar and start menu, this problem is now getting addressed.
Today, in the Intent to Ship thread the feature has been announced for shipping.
According to the thread, the App Shortcuts menu provides “PWA developers the ability to show the shortcuts menu of common tasks in their app. The menu can be invoked by right-clicking the app icon in the quick launch bar after the PWA has been installed on the user’s desktop or long-pressing the app on Android. ”
According to the announcement, the feature will be initially enabled on Android, with support for the desktop to follow. A demo site is now available to test the Shortcuts menu for the PWA’ s icon in Chrome Canary on Android and Windows.
