Recently we reported Mozilla published Firefox to Windows 11 Microsoft Store and pulled it back after finding bugs, the browser is now available on Microsoft Store for download for Windows 11 and Windows 10 users. Here is what this means for end-users on Windows.
First and foremost, you should know, till the new Microsoft Store introduction with Windows 11, Microsoft has not allowed other browsers in the Windows App Store. The store requires the browser to be using Legacy Edge and Internet Explorer engine. That’s no longer the case, the Redmond firm changed Store policies and now allows non-Microsoft browsers.
We’ve already seen Yandex and Opera Browsers on Microsoft Store for some time, now Firefox is also available.

Benefits of downloading Firefox from Microsoft Store
Since Mozilla packaged Firefox in MSIX package into Store
- Firefox gets automatic updates from Store without a separate update.exe process.
- Install success rate will be close to 100%
- You can uninstall Firefox, like any other app on Windows 10 and Windows 11
- Firefox supports differential updates, which means, only files changed in Firefox will be replaced rather than all files.
Firefox new features:
- Firefox is recently avialable with Colorways themes. You can personalize the Firefox browser from different colors.
- Thanks to WebRender, Firefox users can now expect lighting fast site loading and display
- offers stronger privacy and security protections such as Enhanced Tracking Protection, total Cookie Protection, HTTPS-Only mode, and DNS over HTTPS mode
You can download Firefox from Microsoft Store from here.
When you check Firefox about dialog after install, the window shows this message: “Mozilla MSIX package, Mozilla-msix-1.0″. That way you know you’re running Firefox or its Store App.
