Microsoft Edge 94 lets you update Saved Passwords easily

After Chrome, Microsoft Edge is getting support for the “Well-known URL for change Passwords” web standard. With this, the upcoming Edge 94 makes it easier to update saved Passwords for websites that support well-known URL from its Password Settings page.

Microsoft Edge Password Manager features

Microsoft Edge got a strong Password Manager built-in.

Password Monitor scans your passwords saved to Microsoft Edge Password Manager by comparing against the compromised passwords database in the cloud and alerts if you’ve any affected passwords.

You can run it on demand also.

Edge can also generate strong and unique passwords when you create new accounts on websites.

If you share your device, Microsoft Edge adds additional security where it requires authentication before Password autofill. You can read more about this here.

Microsoft Edge comes with a Password Health indicator. The Health column in Password Settings shows the strength of your saved passwords. You can take any action if there is an issue with the Password such as it was weak or reused across accounts or leaked.

Microsoft Edge already lets you Edit and bulk delete passwords. When you edit a password, you can change the password saved to Edge, but to update, you need to manually visit the website and make the change.

That’s where the new feature comes into play where it avoids the need to visit the website, enter the password, find the change Password page and do the necessary steps for updating the password.

Microsoft Edge Password Manager comes integrated with support for the Well-known URL standard.

As a result, the Password Health column or Password Monitor scan result also includes a change option.

When you click that option in Edge, you’ll be taken directly to the change password page for a specific website. Edge auto-fills the password and even suggests a better password with the built-in Password generation feature it has.

Microsoft believes this really makes updating passwords easier than before.

It’s worth noting, as of now, only a few sites such as Twitter, Github, and WordPress support this standard.

Note: Chrome and Edge Password Managers simply redirect users to the Password change page set up by websites when they click the “Change Password” or “change button.”

Related to Microsoft Edge 94, Edge is getting support for adding free form text boxes to PDF and Sleeping Tabs, and immersive Reader Improvements.
