Edge has dedicated setting to disable JIT & enable ACG and CET now

Microsoft has decided to test out super Duper Secure Mode for Edge that disables Just in Time Compiler (JIT) and enables new security mitigations. But the enhanced security comes at the cost of performance. Microsoft now offers a dedicated option in Edge security settings to turn on or off features.

Microsoft says most of the CVEs are due to JIT in the V8 JavaScript engine and it’s true also.

Edge switched to Blink/Chromium and enjoys high performance like Chrome, thanks to the V8 engine.

Now, the company wants to turn off JIT in Edge, which also turns on the security features ACG and CET.

For this, you need to enable the Super Duper Secure Mode flag in Canary verison.

This is no longer required now. Microsoft added a flag to Edge that lets you enable or disable Super Duper Secure Mode right from Settings.

What is Saya?

Right now, there is no information available on what Saya is. While Super Duper Secure Mode is not the final or official name of feature Edge is testing, Saya could be that.

Enable Saya in Edge browser:

  1. Visit edge://flags
  2. Search for Saya, enable it, and restart the browser.

Microsoft said users have not noticed any difference in daily browsing with JIT disabled in their tests.

Don’t take Microsoft words for granted, the websites you visit in the Edge browser may make a difference in performance.

“You may experience slightly slower browser performance as a result”, the setting warns.

H/t to Leo.
