Manage Microsoft Edge’s Downloading Proxy Script issue

Like Chrome in the past, the new Microsoft Edge is also reportedly loading pages slowly for some and showing the “downloading proxy script‘ message at the bottom. If you’re affected by this, here is how you can get rid of it as Microsoft is aware of it and is working to resolve the issue permanently.

What is a Proxy anyway?

A proxy or Proxy Server acts as a gateway between the Internet and the local network.

What you should know:

  • If you’ve seen this issue in the past in other Chromium browsers, Edge Chromium isn’t different
  • Edge is trying to download proxy scripts
  • The system’s default proxy settings can also cause this issue

If you’ve not set up a proxy in Edge, you need to check the Windows settings.

Here, you may want to prevent Edge from checking Windows proxy settings and disable the automatically detect settings option, here is how you can do that.
