New Microsoft Edge based on Chromium does update itself automatically like Chrome, but a process continuously runs in the background and periodically checks for updates. You’ll notice the process as “Microsoft Edge Update (32-bit)” on Task Manager in the Processes tab, it’s normal for one or two processes to run, but not plenty.
What you need to know:
- In the past few days, users reported on answers forums and Reddit that more Edge update processes running,
- Some even mentioned they’re consuming memory
- It’s rare for many Edge Update processes to function
- Uninstalling and reinstalling Edge doesn’t address this problem.
Microsoft rolls out fix for the multiple Microsoft Edge Update (32-bit) processes running issue
Seems, only Edge stable is affected by the issue, but not other versions such as beta, dev, and Canary.
The issue was acknowledged by Microsoft and said it pushed a fix. Unfortunately, still, users are complaining about the same. Microsoft confirms the fix is still rolling out.
“This process duplication is something the team is aware and rolled out a fix for, however that fix is still rolling out and not everyone has it just yet” Microsoft Edge Community Manager, Missy Quarry said on Reddit.
So if you’re affected, you need to wait for somemore time for Edge to correct this issue itself.
