Microsoft Edge has a known issue where it auto starts on Windows 10 after you login. There is no confirmation from Microsoft the issue is resolved or still present. The company then said it is investigating or looking into the bug. But, if your Edge Chromium is automatically launching on Windows when you login, here is the way you can stop that from happening
Prevent Microsoft Edge from launching automatically on Windows 10 Startup
- Open Settings
- Visit Accounts > Sign-in Options
- Under Restart apps,> disable “Automatically save my restartable apps when I sign out and restart them after sign-in”
It’s worth noting that Windows 10 version 1809 began to offer control over restartable apps through an option in the Settings app.
If turning off the above Windows Setting doesn’t help,
- Open Task Manager
- Click on the “Startup” tab
- Select “Microsoft Edge”
- Click on “Disable”
Note: You shouldn’t be disabling the “Microsoft Edge Update” process as it is necessary for Edge to get updates. Or in other words, the process checks for Edge updates periodically.
