Google Chrome 86 in Canary no longer showing HTTP and WWW protocols for websites in the URL bar, the change also landed in Microsoft Edge 86 Canary and isn’t unintentional as the Edge team not pulled this, but is now saying it as a new feature and seeking feedback from users over it.

Most users wanted Chrome to show a full URL in the address bar by default rather than hiding them.
Chrome still hides WWW, HTTP, and HTTPS by default, but gives an option to users to see them when they select the “Always Show full URLs” option in the Omnibox context menu once.
For this option to appear, users need to enable “context menu Show full URLs” flag in chrome://flags page.
The flag is present in Chrome 83 and 84, but not in Chrome 86 as of writing this article.
New Microsoft Edge 86 canary picked up the change from Chromium, neither it shows protocols in address bar nor offers the related flag.
Generally, the Edge team undoes some changes upstreamed from Chromium, for instance, it did nuke changes like Close other tabs and close tabs to the right and Extension menu icon.
But this is different, Edge team claims this as a new feature in a Reddit thread and asks users to provide feedback on it.
It may be too early to comment since the changes are not yet made into Stable versions but seems as if Microsoft and Google are committed to remove HTTP and www from URLs forever.
What’s your take on this change?
