Microsoft Edge New Tab Page is now showing the Meet Now button for Skype and Recommended Searches for some users in the Canary version.
Despite making Canary channel available, Microsoft is still pushing and testing new Edge features to some only via controlled rollouts. For example, the Vertical tabs feature is already available to some users in dev and canary versions, but not for all.
Similarly, Microsoft has recently rolled out Trending searches to few users on the Edge Canary version on the New Tab Page.
In addition to Quick links, Greeting, Background, newly enabled “Recommended Searches” also being offered as an option in the customize section. So you can toggle it if you found searches on the New tab below the search box quite annoying.

Another new feature that is being tested by Microsoft on Edge New Tab page is the Meet Now button for Skype. Like Recommended searches, this also being shown below the search box with a message “Host a video meeting with one click! No signups required!”. Clicking the button joins you in the conversation right away.

The Meet Now can’t be disabled on NTP right now according to user reports. We feel Microsoft is unnecessarily bloating Edge New Tab Page with trending searches and Skype Meet now button.

Agree it is bloating. At least allow enable/disable. Disappointing development.
