Chrome on Android uses system intent for selecting photos from the device, low memory conditions can cause Chrome browser to shut down while the intent is running, citing this as reason, a bug has been created three years back for Google to write its own file/Photo picker dialog. Today Chromium team added a flag to the Canary version to “enable video files to be shown in the Photo Picker dialog”, which is now working when turned on, where you can able to not only see photos but videos as well in the file picker dialog.
If you now try to upload photos to a website such as Twitter, you’ll get a UI in Chrome to choose an action from Camera, camcorder, Recorder, and Files (this may differ on your device). Generally, you’ll select Files and then select photos or videos.
Now in the latest Chrome Canary, if you visit chrome://flags and enable ” newly added “Photo Picker Video Support” flag, you’ll get a completely new Photo Picker UI with options such as Camera, Browse and Photos and videos added from Gallery to select and upload files.
