We’ve recently covered the latest Windows 10 update is causing Blue Screen of Death issue on certain devices, the issues with update are now on the rise. Recently, some Windows 10 users reported that programs developed on Visual Basic 3 are not working after installing KB4517389 update, they’re giving “unexpected error, quitting”. One of the affected users confirms the error could be part of VBRUN300.dll and says uninstalling the Update makes the issue go away and VB programs work fine again.
According to a thread on Answers forum, the original poster said he has difficulty in running Microsoft Visual Basic 3 programs after installing the KB4517389 update. OP claims running the VB programs either with administrative privileges or in compatibility mode not fixed the issue, the user says “very, very old programs written in Quick Basic still run fine after the update” .
He reveals MS support attempted to solve the issue by restoring Windows to an earlier version and by reinstalling Windows 10, but after installing the CU, the programs not working. He ended up uninstalling Update and hid the update from getting reinstalled by Windows Update.
Other users confirmed they too getting “unexpected error, quitting” for old programs and legacy 16-bit applications that were written in VB3 and said, by uninstalling the update they got their VB programs to work again.
One affected user says ” Microsoft Business support indicate the issue has acknowledged by the product group and they’re working on a solution”. So far, Microsoft hasn’t acknowledged about this issue with the update in the answers forum.
