
Mozilla has recently released Firefox 91 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The company has decided to honor the “increase contrast” setting on Mac with the update. If a Mac user has that setting turned on, then Firefox automatically enables High contrast mode. After numerous reports from users, Mozilla now reverting the change in Firefox with Firefox 91.0.2

- Automatic High contrast mode w/ increase contrast enabled in macOS Settings.
Users who upgraded from Firefox 90 to 91 on Mac noticed an increase in contrast in the Firefox browser.
Apparently, this has been a new feature introduced by Mozilla with verison 91.
The company mentioned this in release notes itself:
“Firefox now automatically enables High contrast Mode when “Increase Contrast” is checked on MacOS”
Affected Users reported on Firefox help and social forums to find the reason and solution for the issue.
Users need to disable the high contrast mode in Firefox by following the below instructions.
Disable High Contrast Mode in Firefox on Mac
- Open Menu, select Settings
- Select General and head to Language and Appearance
- Click on Colors
- in the “Override the colors specified by the page with your selections above” drop-down menu, choose Never.
Disable high contrast mode in Firefox on Mac - Click OK to apply the changes.
Mozilla now going to make a Never default setting with Firefox 91.0.2 even with an “Increase Contrast” checked in macOS Settings.

- High Contrast Mode is no longer enabled by default when “Increase Contrast” is checked in macOS settings (bug 1726606)
- Firefox no longer clears authentication data when purging trackers, to avoid repeatedly prompting for a password (bug 1721084)
