Microsoft brings Text Suggestions for Hardware keyboard to Chrome and Chromium Edge on Windows 10

A month back, we’ve reported  Google Chrome on Windows 10 will show text suggestions when you use the hardware keyboard, provided, you need to visit Settings app and enable a setting. The work on this has been started by Microsoft and to our surprise, the feature is already working in latest Chrome Canary and Chromium-based Microsoft Edge version 75.0.111.0.

1. Click on start and select Settings

2.  Visit Devices  > Typing

3. Under Hardware Keyboard, Turn on ” Show text suggestions as I type”

Now launch Chrome Canary or Chromium Edge and type in the Omnibox or address bar or input fields, suggestions appear as you type which you can select using the mouse.

When the issue created mentioning “show text suggestions as I type” feature doesn’t work in Google Chrome on Windows 10,  a Microsoft employee contributing to Chromium replied the feature will be enabled when TSF1 implementation in Chromium is complete.

Now in the last few hours, bug status has set to “started” and its working as per our testing, check the screenshot posted above.

Nowadays, you can see text suggestions in mobile operating systems, but Microsoft added text suggestions support for hardware keyboard to Windows 10 lately with April 2018 Update version 1803,  now available in Windows 10 version 1809 also.

Chrome has never supported text suggestions before, Firefox and other browsers and other applications that came with Windows such as Notepad also supported the feature, now MS has contributed in bringing this feature to Chromioum and the company to bring native caret browing and high contrast mode to Chrome as well.

We’re already seen positive response from users to Chromium Edge in which, Picture in Picture mode, the dark mode are already working, you can replace Bing with Google as default search engine and install Chrome extensions from Chrome Web Store.

Now Edge users can rejoice and enjoy Chrome features in Microsoft browser that is based on Chromium. What’s your take on devleopments that are happenign right now?
