If you now visit the newly launched Skype for Web in Firefox browser, the site says ” browser not supported” message informing “Use Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome to access Skype for Web experience” and suggests to download Skype to the computer as an alternative. Well Apparently, Mozilla can’t do much about it, but if you are desperate to use the web version of Skype in Firefox without switching to another browser, you can, here is how.
If you don’t know, yesterday, Microsoft has launched new “Skype for Web” and is available with feature such as HD calling, Call recording, Notifications Panel and chat media gallery. But the new Skype for Web supports only Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers, but not Firefox.
Reason: Current Firefox version 65 doesn’t support NPAPI which is required for the web version of Skype to function, the service doesn’t work.
Make the new Skype for Web to work in Firefox
1. Visit the Mozilla add-ons site for Firefox
2. Download and install the Web extension version of User-Agent Switcher
3. Head to https://web.skype.com/, click on UAS extension icon in the toolbar and in the second row, choose “Google Chrome” or “Microsot Edge” as user Agent.
4. Now reload Skype Website to see the sign in page, we’re able to successfully signed into Skype.
To restore default User Agent in Firefox, click on the first icon in the last row.
Do note, the extension does support changing user agent for a specific website or domain, for instance, you can add new https://web.skype.com/ address to the input field in extension Popup UI, but we’ve noticed it’s not working and is applying UA to all websites you visit in Firefox.
So after using the extension, change the UA to default, so that other websites will function as they intended to be in Firefox browser.
