Google Chrome on Windows 10 to get dark mode Support

Google Chrome comes with a default light theme and lacks dark on Windows, the incognito window sports a dark theme and looks beautiful and less straining to eyes at night, but it is limited to private browsing only. While Windows 10 already supports dark mode for apps which Microsoft Edge and Firefox already support, but Google hasn’t yet added support for the Windows 10 dark mode to Chrome browser, don’t worry! it’s coming! The company is working on that.

Chrome to support Windows 1o dark mode

The bug created by Google Chrome developer Peter Kasting on May 1, 2018, with Priority set as 2 has this description:

“Windows 10 allows users to set their apps to “light” or “dark” mode. Chrome should respect this. The most obvious hack is to use the default incognito color scheme in normal mode (as well as incognito) if the system is in dark mode. Long-term we should perhaps have a better answer. This has been a popular request for some time.”

Google chrome on Windows 10 to get dark theme support

To the latest, Peter Kasting has confirmed the news in a Reddit thread and suggests users to use an extension to get the dark theme for Chrome browser for the time-being. “For desktop, native dark mode support is in progress, in the meantime, we generally suggest people use the dark theme”.

It is interesting to note that Google is in a hurry to add dark theme support to Chrome 73 for recently released MacOS Mojave but not for the Windows 10 which has been available with system-wide dark support since 2016.

January 3, 2019 Update: You can now force enable dark mode for Chrome on Windows, read about that here.
