How to Set Foxit Reader’s Zoom Level to 100% by Default for Every PDF Display

Last updated on December 14, 2017 By Venkat

We’ve already covered how to Set Default Zoom Level in Nitro PDF Reader to 100%, and by default, Foxit Reader application on Windows sets default Zoom level for every PDF document to “Fit Width”, if you want that to be 100% every time when you view PDF file, you can set that easily.

Before that you need to know- Foxit Reader remembers last view settings of already opened files when reopening. Since we want Foxit to open last viewed PDF documents with 100% zoom also, what you’ve do now is

  • From File menu, select Preferences (or better to use Ctrl +K shortcut instead)
  • In the Preferences window, select History on left and uncheck “Restore last view settings when opening”
  • Click “OK” to save the changes.

Setting default Zoom level for Foxit Reader to 100%

1. File  menu > Preferences > Page Display, under Default Page Layout

2.  For Zoom: choose 100% and click ‘OK’ to save the changes.

I have tried to all the examples that have been tried each time nothing keeps it in default mode and the documents open in full view each time. Very cumbersome!

I was able to make the update in my FoxIt Reader (v7) by hitting ctrl+K, then going to Page Display and setting the Zoom to 100% (it was on fit width). Thanks!

Adobe Acrobat or Fox-it Reader. Unable to set default viewing size to 100%. Period. Nothing works.

I’ve updated the instructions in the post for latest version of Foxit and can confirm they’re working fine on my end, please follow the instructions again.

Extra Step Required — follow instructions as given, i.e., Go to Preferences and change the Page Display to whatever zoom level you want.

THEN check the “Forbid the change of the current Zoom factor during execution….” down at bottom. That will lock it in.

Can I upload a pdf that refuses to obey my settings?
It’s a two page document and opens in the Facing view @ 77.76% no matter what settings I’ve tried.

    I’m open to suggestions.

It doesn’t work. I can’t today on sept. 2016 make the default yet. Always change and the page display is at 74%.

Seems Foxit Reader from version 8 onwards not honoring that setting and showing different zoom level for each PDF. Do you agree with me on this? Keep the Zoom to 100% under preferences, now launch Foxit and open any PDF, ensure ribbon mode is enabled, click on Home, set Zoom to 100%, now open any other PDF, it will open and displayed with zoom level 100%. Close Foxit and try with other PDFs. This has worked me. Let me know its working for you, I will update the post with this information.

Just tried this, and a lot of other stuff – not working. Cannot believe Foxit just ignores the preferences I set. I am so used to “fighting” this tool by now. I guess it’s the price for Foxit being cheaper than Adobe.

I’m having an interesting issue. Hope I can get some help! I have zoom preference set to 100% in Foxit. When I open any pdf on my desktop every pdf will open at 100%, which is great. However, when I open a foxit pdf sent to me via Outlook, the pdf opens at a different percentage. How do I get 100% zoom in all pdfs, even one’s that are emailed to me?

Have tried all tricks. Nothing works. Always opens in default zoom. Very annoying as I have to often open 40+ pdfs at once to review design work.

Wow! Nice trick. It’s a shame that it is not clearer when just scrolling thru the preferences. Thanks!
