Microsoft is rolling out new look to Edge browser

Microsoft has been working on a new design for the Edge browser for some time now, it is now rolling out to users running the Stable version. Users can try the new look by just toggling a switch in the ellipsis menu.

Microsoft has promised at MSbuild 2023 that Edge’s new browsing experience will be aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. The company has updated its Edge design in line with Windows 11.

Edge new look and feel

Key features:

  • Modular design
  • Rounded tabs
  • Rounded corners.
  • Translucent backgrounds
  • Fluent animations
  • The profile icon has been moved to the left to make it easier to add, change and manage your account.
  • Structural changes bring a new container system that allows one to view multiple items at once. Split Screen is part of the container system and has been most liked when the Edge design with an internal prototype named Phoenix.

While the new Edge is not available in stable to us out of the box, Micorsoft confirmed it is available and you can enable it by toggling the switch “Try the new look of Micorsoft Edge” in the menu and restarting.

If Edge’s new design is not available to you in stable try following the steps

  1. Launch Edge browser
  2. Click on menu > HelP and feedback > About Edge, update Edge if available, and Restart.
  3. Check for the “Try the new look of Microsoft Edge” option in the menu, if present, Enable, otherwise skip to the next step

  4. Visit chrome://flags and enable the following;
    Microsoft Edge rounded corners
    Make Rounded Tabs feature available
    Enable Windows 11 Acrylic effect in menus
    Microsoft Edge profile icon in title bar
    Microsoft Edge Split Screen
    Project Kodiak: Terminology
    Project Kodiak: Look and Feel

We’re not sure this will help, but it’s worth a try.

If you’re already running Edge Canary, Dev and Beta versions then the new Edge’s Visual update is already available to you, you don’t need to tinker with flags.
