Chrome for Android lets you Test ‘LiteVideos’ in Canary

Google has added flags to Chrome Canary on Android for users and developers to enable and test the LiteVideo feature.

Recently we’ve reported Google has added LiteVideo support to Chrome on Android to stream videos in low-resolution when the Lite Mode is enabled.

The company offered flags in Chrome Canary on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome OS first to enable the LiteVideos feature. The same flags are now available in Chrome Canary on Android.

Add Chrome flags support for LiteVideo and local testing.

We should have chrome about flags control to easy enable LiteVideos for testing, both within our team and for outside.

The flags should include:
1) Enable the LiteVideo feature
2) Enable the feature to ignore the network conditions checks (ECT and connection type cellular)

The Chromium team says the new feature won’t be visible to the users “no UI”.

To Enable LiteVideo feature in Chrome on Android

1. Launch Chrome browser

2. Visit chrome://flags page

3. Search for “Lite” and enable the following flags

“Enable LiteVideos”

“Force LiteVideos decision”

4. Restart the browser.

Tap on the menu icon, select Settings

Tap on “Lite Mode” and turn it on.

If you play any videos on YouTube, they should play with SD quality, as of now, this is not happening. Expect the feature to work as the development progresses.
