Microsoft’s Your Phone App now shows Audio Controls for Music Playing on the Phone

Now you can control music and audio playing in the apps on Android smartphones via audio controls in Microsoft’s Your Phone App on Windows 10.

Your Phone App by Microsoft allows users to connect their Windows 10 and Android phones. The app on Windows 10 shows notifications and photos from your SmartPhone and allows you to make calls and send messages from the app itself.

At the end of this April, Microsoft announced about Your Phone app’s preview feature it is making available for Windows Insiders to test.

Your Phone App app allows controlling audio as well as music playing on Android phones.

The following audio apps are supported according to Microsoft.

  • Spotify,
  • Pandora
  • Amazon Music
  • Google Play music
  • YouTube Music
  • Xiaomi Music
  • Google podcast

Recently, Your Phone App available on Windows 10 and Your Phone companion on Android have received updates and the version numbers have been increased to 1.20051.93.0 and 1.20051.113.0 respectively.

The updated Your Phone App now shows audio controls when music/audio is playing in one of the above-supported apps and lets you pause or play next/previous track.

Here are the requirements for audio controls to show up in Your Phone App

  • Your PC should be running Windows 10 version October 20018 Update or later
  • Your smartphone should be using Android 7.0 or later
  • Apps should support showing media controls in Android notifications

If the above requirements are met and Your Phone app still doesn’t show music playing on Your Phone App, ensure

  • You’ve given permission for Audio apps on Android to show notifications
  • “Show audio currently playing from my phone” setting is turned on in Your Phone App Settings under Personalization.
