[Update: Extension is back] Chrome Web Store removes Dashlane Password Manager Extension (3M+ users) over Permissions reason

Dashlane Password Manager Chrome extension is no longer available on Web Store for download, it has been deleted by Google over “user data privacy/use of permissions”, currently the extension page is showing 404 error.

Dashlane is aware of this, it received the first email on Friday from the CWS team to address the concerns in seven days. The extension has been removed from Web Store on Saturday as the Dashlane’s team of quick submission of permission justification and the new version didn’t help.

Google removes Dashlane password manager extension from Chrome Web Store

The company which approached Chromium extensions help forum to reinstate their extension in Store, agreed their password manager does require quite a lot of permissions to function but now it doesn’t know what to do next.

“Our extension (Dashlane Password Manager extension, 3M+ Users, ID: “fdjamakpfbbddfjaooikfcpapjohcfmg”) has been removed from the store on Saturday morning. The reason invoked is User Data Privacy / Use of Permissions. Indeed we are using a very powerful set of permissions, but they are needed for Dashlane to work on everywhere. However we are dark in the next steps.” said Dashlane’s Senior Software Engineer,  Thomas Guillory.

Dashlane is a pretty popular password manager extension in the Chrome Web Store and it has been installed by more than 3 million users. The company confirmed, their Chrome extension cannot be downloaded from Store and the issue is being investigated, meanwhile, the status page clarifies this doesn’t impact the users who already installed extension.

“Only users needing to download our Chrome extension for a first time install or reinstall will encounter the issue. We are actively working with Google to have it taken back as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.” Unfortunately, the extension coming back to Store soon is not that easy, as some other extensions are facing the same issue due to different reasons.
