Restoring the missing volume icon in the notification area
I. 1. Right click on the taskbar and select ‘Properties
2. In the Taskbar tab under ‘notification area’, click ‘Customize’ button and click on ‘Turn system icons on or off’, here you can able to select and set volume icon and other missing icons behaviors to ‘On’ or you can click ‘Restore default icon behaviors’.
If the behaviors selection is grayed out, then you’ve a task on your hand -simple though, follow the steps below.

Enabling the Volume icon by using Group Policy Editor
1. Open Group Policy Editor by typing gpedit.msc in the run command
2. Once it opens, navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar, find and double click on the ‘Remove the volume control icon’ and set it as ‘Disabled’, click on ‘OK’ and restart your computer.
3. After the restart, you can see volume icon in the taskbar or notification area. Using the above steps, you can able to restore or enable other system icons like clock, network and Power as well… this worked for me.
