Do you know  Windows 11 can notify you when an app gets added to the Startup Apps list in Settings? The feature is available in the new OS, but disabled by default, here is how you can enable it.

People used to rely on Apps like WinPatrol in the past to get alarmed when new programs add to the Startup programs list that runs on system login. Malware can also do this.

Without needing to rely on a third-party program for this, Windows 11 has a feature built-in since its initial launch to warn users via a notification when an app registers to run at Startup. This is buried in Settings App, here is how you can enable it.

How to Enable Startup App notification in Windows 11

  1. Click on Start
  2. Open Settings
  3. Click System,
  4. Scroll down to  “Notifications from apps and other senders
  5. Enable Startup App Notification and ensure the Notifications switch to set to on.

From now on, you’ll receive a notification banner like the one below whenever an application gets added to the Startup Apps list.
” x (App name) is now configured to run when you log in.”

You can sort the Startup Apps list by status and Startup impact.

You can go through the list and disable any unwanted app from running on startup.

You can also get these details at a glance by visiting the Startup Apps section in Task Manager.

You need to install apps that do this to see Windows 11’s Startup App notification.

We believe Windows 11 may monitor for items in Startup Settings Page, Run, Startup folder, and Startup tasks but it may not cover services, scheduled tasks, or RunOnce.

Final words:
If you’ve upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you should know the Startup App alert notification is available in Windows 11 also. You can enable it and get notified when an app is added to the Startup list to run when you log on to Windows. Most users don’t know this feature even existed in Windows 11, it is off by default.
