If you open a web browser and work with tabs open, you may have fear of losing them when you accidentally close the browser. This applies to every web browser, including the new Edge based on Chromium. Microsoft already ported most of the requested features from Edge legacy to new Edge, you can now add warn on close tabs to that list as well.
With many tabs, you may want to close some tabs to declutter the tab bar and focus on other tabs.
Set aside Tabs in the previous version of Edge allows you to put some tabs aside and restore them whenever you need them. The feature isn’t available in the new Edge, but you can try this Chrome extension for the same.
As of now, Microsoft is still seeking feedback on the set-aside tabs feature.
Tab Groups is another thing that lets you organize tabs into different groups and addresses tab clutter. Bookmarking tabs also solves the issue to a certain extent.
Irrespective of the startup setting, if you want to avoid losing tabs when you close the browser window, Close all tabs warning is a must.
Microsoft has added a setting to enable the close of all tabs prompt to Edge 91 Canary by default.
Enable or Disable Close all Tabs prompt in new Microsoft Edge
- Launch Edge browser
- Click on Settings and more (three-dot) icon
- Head to Appearance > customize browser > overall appearance
- Under Zoom setting, toggle “Ask before closing multiple tabs” switch to Enable for Edge to ask you when you try to close the browser window with tabs open.
After that onwards, whenever you try to close the Edge window intentionally or accidentally, you’ll be asked for confirmation.
You can click cancel to avoid damage or select Close all and check “Don’t ask me again” in the dialog if you don’t want Edge to bother you about that.
To disable close all tabs prompt forever, reverse the action in the 4th step.
