Google has launched the Neighbourly Beta app for India last year to help people to connect with neighbours and share local information, since then the app is available for all users in the country on Play Store for download. Today, the Neighbourly team has started sending emails to App users to let them know they can no longer access Neighbourly after May 20, this year and allows users to download Neighbourly data via Google takeout before October 12, 2020. Google cited the app “hasn’t grown” they’d expected as the reason and indirectly mentions the current COVID-19 Pandemic situation as “difficult times”
“As a community, you’ve come together to celebrate local festivals, shared crucial information during floods, and answered over a million questions. But Neighbourly hasn’t grown like we had hoped”.
Google says it will learn lessons from Neighbourly and uses them to improve its other products. “In these difficult times, we believe that we can help more people by focusing on other Google Apps that are already serving millions of people every day” and suggests to keep sharing knowledge with neighbours by becoming a Google Maps local guide.
Neighbourly has got its last update in December 2019. If you’re using the App in India, you can able to export the usage data in HTML format by visiting Google takeout. The downloaded data contains your contents, answers, replies and followed contents and questions you have moderated.
