Mozilla to remove WebIDE in Firefox 70

Mozilla now starting to show WebIDE will disabled in Firefox 69 release message in Nightly and saying remote debugging is available in about:debugging page, we learned the company is planing to remove WebIDE in Firefox 70.

When was the last time you’ve used WebIDE developer tool in Firefox? The tool can be used to remotely debug websites or apps running in Firefox on Android from desktop Firefox. You can able to connect to smart phone running Firefox for Android via WiFI or USB cable.

Maybe you heard more about Web Integration developer Environment when Firefox OS was around to test Firefox OS apps, the OS has been sunset and the tool still exists under Web Developer menu in Firefox application menu, now it has has been replaced by new version of about:debugging.

WebIDE to be disabled in Mozilla Firefox 69

Mozilla in a bug report revealed first they want to show deprecation message about WebIDE to users in Firefox 68 (currently in Nightly) to inform about the change, after that, they want to turn it off in Fx 69 and remove the Web Integrated Development Environment eventually in Firefox 70.

If you’re hearing about it for the first time, in the current Firefox, you can able to open it by visiting hamburger menu > Web Developer > WebIDE. You can also use shortcut Shift+F8 to launch it on Windows version of Firefox.
