Firefox Fenix Nightly available for download with Sessions [overview and Screenshots]

Mozilla is working on next android version for Firefox browser- Firefox Fenix — right now in development and if you’re interested, you can test it right away and can see the new UI and know the new features included in it like Sessions.

Fenix alpha version apk is now available for manual download, but not on Google Play store and you’re warned, like Mozilla reference browser, it is buggy and unstable and some functions or settings are not working.

Fenix is the successor to Firefox for Android (Fennic), after all, Fennec could be replaced by Fenix when the latter development completes. the Project page of GitHub states ‘Fenix is not your parents’ android browser’, so it is for a younger generation.

After installing Fenix on your device, you’ll notice home screen informing about new sessions feature, here what it says about the new feature: “Sessions help you return to the sites you visit often and those you’ve just discovered Tabs. Start browsing and they’ll begin appearing here”.

Each Session can be saved, deleted, archived and you can even send and share a session. The saved sessions will appear on home screen at the next restart and you can see and access them from library menu as well.

Unlike other Firefox browsers, address or search bar will be at the bottom and by tapping on ellipsis displays menu which contains Settings, library, request desktop site, open private tab, new tab, share option.

Settings let you choose and set the default search engine, manage passwords, credit cards, and addresses data. Advanced settings provide controls for accessibility, lets you view permissions given to websites. Data Choices lets you control Telemetry, crash reporter, Mozilla location service and Firefox Health report settings, these are turned off by default in Nightly build of Fenix.

The library contains recent Sessions, screenshots, Downloads, Favorites, History, and Logins.

Note: You need to download and run its APK and need to allow applications from unknown sources to be installed on your phone, so make sure you turned on the setting before complaining its not working.
