Vivaldi 2.2 Release Candidate 1 has just been released for Windows, Mac, and Linux. At the last minute, the Vivaldi team has added an option to Vivaldi 2.2 RC1 Privacy settings to opt out from falling back to Google DNS service if there are any errors you face when accessing certain websites using system DNS.
Yes! The Google DNS server addresses –8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 –have been hardcoded into Chromium in such a way that if you can’t connect to a website, address of website will be sent to Google to offer you similar websites in return, the feature is enabled by default in Google Chrome and Chromium based browsers such as Vivaldi.
After the issue has been brought to Vivaldi dev attention, the dev has added an option to disable that in 2.2 version, currently available in RC also.
To disable Google DNS service in Vivaldi
1. Visit Settings > Privacy, under Third Party Services,
2. Uncheck ‘Use Google DNS Service to Help Resolve Errors’.

You can see this option enabled by default in Chrome Privacy and Security Settings as ‘Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors’
Vivaldi dev told us that “It’s a feature of Chromium to use Google’s DNS Servers as fallback if there are any errors using the system DNS. You can argue that Primary impact is small, but at least now this can be opted out of via an option under Privacy in Vivaldi 2.2”.
You should also note that Vivaldi has added a setting in the past to prevent WebRTC IP leak Protection, you need to visit Settings> Privacy, under WebRTC IP Handling, uncheck ‘Broadcast IP for Best WebRTC Performance’.
2.2 version of Vivaldi lets you customize toolbars as well, expect the final version to available any time soon.
