Gmail lets you add colors to labels to distinguish from other emails. The feature has been available for a long time. Recently, Google has quietly rolled an update to its email service to change label icons from a solid color to colored outlines. The change has been pulled a couple of days back after received user feedback and is rolling out. We can confirm Gmail labels now appearing with Solid color.

Gmail Users who noticed the labels change posted on Gmail Help forum[1] [2].
“The Gmail labels at the side (the little flags that are colored next to your words) have gone from a solid color on the side to just a colored outline. It makes it much harder to see the colors” An annoyed user said.
“Why was this changed? It was much easier to see them at the side and able to differentiate between the colors and flags without having to read the labels. Any way to fix this? ” he further asked.
It must be from an update that literally just happened (like in the past few days) – the label tags on folders are now outlined with the set color instead of filled and it makes it much harder to find the color I want at a glance. Is there any way to change that back to being filled like it has been for years?
After the feedback, the Gmail team seems to have reverted the change as we can say that from comments [3] [4] in the thread.
“Well done everyone. Providing feedback has worked. The label icons have reverted to solid color. This is a win for people who hit the feedback button (several times in my case). ”
You may need to reload the Gmail to see the difference.
