If you’ve accustomed to opening a lot of tabs in a web browser, you should give Microsoft Edge’s Vertical Tabs a try. The feature is only present in Edge, but not in other browsers such as Chrome and Firefox. In fact, Microsoft claims it is one of the reasons for you to switch to its browser.
What you need to know:
- Vertical Tabs feature is available in all Edge insider channels
- You can enable it in the stable version by visiting edge://flags
- On wider monitors, the screen space on either side of content is wasted, the space can be utilized when you turn on Vertical Tabs
- The feature may be helpful for tab hoarders
Microsoft recently made the Vertical Tabs feature more usable with two useful additions
- drag and drop support for links and selected text
- resizing.
While Vertical Tabs in Edge already support drag and drop where you can reorder the tabs in the vertical tab panel by dragging and dropping.
With the new addition, you can select a text or link and drag and drop on the vertical tab panel to open the link or search selected text in the new tab.
And, you can now resize the Vertical Tabs pane, here is how
- Hover over the Vertical Tabs border with the mouse until it appears as a double arrow.
- Use it to expand or shrink the width of Vertical Tabs to set the preferred width you want.
At the time of writing, these two features are available in Edge 90 Canary only.
