Microsoft took to Edge support website to confirm that there will be no uninstall option for new Microsoft Edge installed via Windows System update and the legacy version of Edge won’t be available to users once they migrate to the new Edge
Microsoft made the new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium available for manual download on January 15. The company pushed the new Chromium Edge browser to devices running Windows 10 versions from 1803 to 2004 via Windows Update. The Edge installed this way, replaces Edge Legacy, and can’t be uninstalled.
Today, Microsoft on a support article titled “Can’t uninstall Microsoft Edge” said, the company has migrated users on Windows from Edge legacy to a new version in a phased manner.
” We want to ensure all windows customers have the latest Microsoft Edge browser for performance, privacy, security, productivity. and support features, it offers” the support document reads.
Microsoft further notes, the new Edge allows importing data from Edge legacy. For this, launch new Edge > Settings > Profiles > Import browser data , choose ” Microsoft Edge Legacy”.
“The new version of Microsoft Edge included in a Windows System update, so the option to uninstall it or use the legacy version of Microsoft Edge will no longer be available”.
Despite the above the statement by Microsoft, it is very much possible to uninstall new Microsoft Edge and you can also able to use legacy and new Edge versions side by side for that matter.
