Microsoft Edge’s ‘Link format’ to make it easier Paste URLs

Microsoft today announced it will make pasting URLs copied from the Edge address bar easier with the new “Link format” feature. The feature initially will be available to Edge on Windows only. Currently, it is being rolled out to the Edge Canary version.

Microsoft wants to address the pain points users face when they copy and paste the URLs in the Edge browser. For instance, the company learned, users need to “regularly edit the URL they copy to make them understandable for sharing or remove seemingly extra parameters”.

With the new Link Format, Microsoft Edge makes it possible to paste URL as a link or plain text via a new flyout menu it offers for Paste when you right-click to paste.

Microsoft is currently rolling out the feature to Edge Canary on Windows and soon it will be available to Mac as well.

As of now, Link format supports URLs copied in the address bar only, but the company promises to expand it to “in-page links” also in the near future.

You will be able to control the feature once available by visiting “edge://settings/shareCopyPaste” in the address bar or by going through menu > Settings > Share, Copy & Paste.
