Microsoft Edge Chromium received support for DoH sometime back. Due to the Performance issue, recently Microsoft has removed the list of DNS providers from Edge Security settings, in all versions. Today, alternative DNS service providers are back and showing up in all Edge insider channels such as Beta, Dev, and Canary except stable.
DNS over HTTPS is secure over traditional DNS as it uses an encrypted connection. Microsoft Edge comes with Secure DNS as the default provider and it allows users to choose from, the following DNS services
- OpenDNS
- NextDNS
- Google PublicDNS
- Cloudflare
- Quad9
- CleanBrowsing (Family filter)
Here is what happened:
Back in February, Microsoft silently disabled DNS over HTTPS Configuration. The company on Edge support channels said it will bring back once the underlying performance issue was fixed.
The change affected all Edge channels.
Today, we noticed, all Edge insider versions showing alternative DNS providers when you visit Settings > Privacy, search and Services > Security and Choose a Service provider.

Cloudflare offers a test page for its service, visit 1.1.1.1/Help after choosing Cloudflare to check feature is working or not.
It won’t take much longer for all DNS options to show up in the Edge release.
If you’ve missed the DoH feature in Edge, you can try it now in beta or dev or canary channel.
