With Firefox supporting Virtual Reality, the websites containing Vimeo videos or VR content now try to request to acess to VR devices. The notificaitons currently can be seen in Firefox 73 Nightly when you visit VR supported websites. Firefox like other notification requests allows to block Virutal Reality device access requests as well in new Virtual Reality Permissions Settings.
ICYDK, Mozilla offers a dedicated Firefox browser for Virtual Reality called Firefox Reality to allow users to open web in it. Currently Firefox Reality supports these VR headsets: Viveport, Oculus Go and Google Daydream.
As of now, the notification can be seen requested by websites containing emebedded Vimeo videos, here is how a notification looks like :” Will you allow player.vimeo.com to acces virutal reality devices?” Firefox cautions within the notificaiton that this may expose sensitive information, you have options to allow or not to Alllow access to VR devices for that site.
If you don’t have any VR devices connected to system running Firefox browser, it is better to avoid this nuisance altogether, here is how.
Block website requests to access Virtual Reality devices in Firefox
1. Click on Firefox hamburger menu > Options
2. Privacy and Security > Permissions > Virtualy Reality
3. Click on Settings and select “Block new requests asking access to your virtual reality devices”.
