Microsoft working to fix Windows Sandbox failed to open Issues in Windows 10

When you try to open Windows Sandbox or Windows Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) in Windows 10, it may fail to load and shows an error. Microsoft has acknowledged this issue and said it is working on a solution.

Microsoft made the Windows Sandbox feature available from Windows 10 May 2019 update (version 1903) in Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise editions. The feature makes the software testing easy,

For the uninitiated, Windows Sandbox is a temporary virtual machine integrated into Windows 10 by Microsoft to test untrusted apps in an isolated desktop environment that doesn’t impact your pc.

The files installed with an application will stay inside the sandbox and will be permanently deleted when you close the Windows Sandbox window.

The feature isn’t enabled by default, you can by selecting it in the “Turn Windows features on or off” dialog in Control Panel. You need to restart your computer for the changes to apply.

To open Sandbox,

1. Click Start,

2. Type “sandbox” and open it by selecting the best match displayed on Start Menu.

Note: You can’t use the Windows Sandbox feature in Windows 10 Home.

3. You can close Sandbox like any application by clicking the close button in the Window.

Today, Microsoft updated a help article to say users may receive any of the following error when they try to open Sandbox in Windows 10

  • “ERROR_VSMB_SAVED_STATE_FILE_NOT_FOUND (0xC0370400)”
  • “E_PATHNOTFOUND (0x80070003)”

Workaround: If you encounter above mentioned error, you need to restart your device to use Sandbox again without any issues, Microsoft says.

The company confirms it is working on a fix for the issue and will provide with an upcoming update to Windows 10.

Pro and Enterprise versions of Windows 10 1903, Windows 10 1909, and Windows 10 2004 are affected by this issue.
