Malwarebytes said in a forum thread that they’re investigating an issue where Windows 7 users using latest Malwarebytes 3.6.1 CU 1.0.508 are experiencing freezes or getting their machines locked up and not able to use input devices such as keyboard and mouse, they’ve to hard reboot to use their PCs when the freezing happens.
Seems as if the issue is affecting certain devices and the company is unable to find out the root cause for this as it could be hardware/software dependent and can’t be reproduced on Windows 7 systems with Malwarebytes installed. That’s why the Malwarebytes team is now asking affected users to submit their system information along with logs collected after running Malwarebytes support tool on their computer in the forum by creating a special thread.

The issue seems to have triggered after installing component package update 1.0.508, has been reported on December 15, 2018. It’s unfortunate that it persisted on some machines to even today.
If you’re affected, Malwarebytes staff suggests returning to the previous version of Malwarebytes will help, here is how you can do that.
1. Uninstall Malwarebytes installed on your computer.
2. Download the earlier version of Malwarebytes
3. And disable Malwarebytes updates to prevent the program from being updated to the latest version which is causing the issue.
For that,
Malwarebytes > Settings > Application, and turn off ‘Automatically download and install application component updates’ under ‘Application Updates’. You’re good to go.
When Malwarebytes fixes the issue and releases an update, then only enable updates. To other users using Malwarebytes who have not seen any issue with the application, needs to do nothing.
