Popular Question and Answer’s site Quora has been hacked, the website’s CEO, Adam D’Angelo announced this news in their blog admitting that approximately 100 million users data may have been compromised. The company has recognized on Friday, November 30, 2018, that a malicious third party has unauthorizedly accessed one of their systems.
Adam D’Angelo says the following information of 100 million users may have been compromised
- Account information -such name, email address, encrypted password, data imported from linked networks when authorized by users,
- Public content and actions, e.g. questions, answers, comments, upvotes
- Non-public content and actions e.g. answer requests, downvotes, direct messages
The company confirms data of anonymous users who post questions and answers anonymously, isn’t breached.
What Quora is doing now?
The company is now busy in notifying the affected users via email and is also logging out breached accounts from the website and invalidating their passwords if they use password as the authentication method.
Quora has put up a page in help center about this here and says if you’re affected you’ll receive an email about the breach. Even though if your account is not part of the breach, it is recommended to change your Quora account password immediately.
