Mozilla has added Linux version of Firefox 65 the ability to switch tabs in the tab bar by scrolling with the mouse wheel, Google Chrome has this feature on Linux version, now Firefox is getting it with version 65.
A bug created two years back to request Allow switching tabs by scrolling in the tab bar when it doesn’t overflow‘ has been fixed by Firefox team. In current Firefox version, scrolling with mouse wheel changes tabs when the tab bar is not overflown with tabs, the bug is to allow for switching tabs with mouse wheel when tabs are not overflowed.
Here is the description of bug which says ” Firefox should allow switching tabs by scrolling with mouse wheel in the tab bar. It’s really convenient and, what it worth, Google Chrome has the feature”.
Jared Wein, software engineer @mozilla denied the request first and marked as Won’tFix by saying that ” Firefox uses the mouse wheel in the tab bar to scroll the tabs when they’re overflowing. We won’t able to change tabs as that would break our current workflow. Tabs in Google Chrome don’t overflow, they just get smaller. At this point it would be functionality better left for the add-on, allowing users to opt-in the changed behavior that they want”
Chrome is getting scrollable tab bar, Google confirms
Now the company has changed their mind and accepted the feature request by setting Target Milestone for Firefox version as 65.
