Norton Power Eraser, an aggressive tool from Symantec that detects and removes scamware or crimeware – which alerts you to download security software or warns you with the pop-ups that your system is not secure – has received an update, Norton Power Eraser 220.127.116.11 has been released with the addition of a scanner that gets rid of potentially unwanted applications (PUPs) and browser plug-ins.
Unwanted Application Scanner
You can find ‘Unwanted Application Scan’ under Advanced Options which is on the main interface. "Applications that can be uninstalled through add/remove programs will launch the applications uninstaller. Those that require manual removal will launch KB articles with the removal steps."
Some other feature added to NPE is UAC bypass which now ‘launches first scan after reboot without requiring approval of UAC’.
You can download Norton Power Eraser from here.
Note: NPE is an aggressive tool that may detect legitimate files or programs as threats, so you need to carefully review the scan results before removing them.
