Google has released Web Vitals Chrome extension that shows Web Performance metrics for a page in Heads Up Display such as largest contentful paint, First Input Delay, and Cumulative Layout Shift. In addition to these, Chrome may natively display Smoothness metric as well on Android and other platforms.
As of now, to know how a page performs, you need to install the Web Vitals Chrome extension. You may not need to do this going forward. Google is working to display them in Heads up display (HUD) on every page.

Make Chrome to show Page Performance metrics natively without installing Web Vitals Extension
- Launch Chrome browser
- Visit chrome://flags page
- Search for “Show performance metrics in HUD”

- Click on the dropdown arrow and select “Enabled”
- Restart the browser
After enabling the flag, it shows metrics for a page while loading for all frames including Ads. First Input Delay will be shown after your interaction with the page. The feature could be useful for developers and Webmasters.
“Display performance metrics on a HUD display. This is designed specially for platforms without extension support. Currently planned performance metrics including metrics matching Web Vitals metrics, as well as possibly smoothness metrics.” Google notes in a bug related to the feature.
