Mozilla recently launched a VPN product called “Mozilla VPN” for Windows, Android, and iOS and is available in the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia for US $4.99/month. The maker of Firefox is now promoting its VPN service in Firefox Nightly’s Private browsing window already.
While VPN brings security and privacy to the whole device, the private browsing mode limits the privacy benefits to Web browser only for that particular session.
So users will prefer Virtual Private Network over the web browser’s Incognito mode, and Firefox has a valid reason for showing Mozilla VPN ad in the private browsing window.
Mozilla has tested ProtonVPN and Firefox Private Network in the past and recently chosen Mullavad for its VPN product.
If you now launch the latest Firefox Nightly and open a new Private window by selecting the option in the menu or when you use shortcut Ctrl+Shift+P on windows, you’ll notice Firefox enticing you to “Try Mozilla VPN” by asking with “Need more privacy?” message at the bottom.

Clicking the “Try Mozilla VPN” link takes you to vpn.Mozilla.org page. Depending on the region, you can signup for the service or
“join the waitlist” if the app is not available in your country.
Mozilla VPN powered Mullavad VPN, claims of fast network speed powered by wireguard servers, here are its features in a nutshell
- Connect up to five devices
- No logging of your network activity
- No bandwidth restrictions
- Device-level encryption
- 280+ servers in 30+ countries.
Most of the revenue to Mozilla comes from the Search deal it had with Google. The company’s motto now is to generate revenue from various new services and products. They joined with Scroll to bring ad-free internet service to Firefox users that cost $5/month.
