Microsoft continues to improve and add new features to PDF Viewer in new Microsoft Edge, with the latest Canary update, the company has added Read Aloud support for PDF documents.
When compared with Edge Legacy, new Edge PDF Viewer lacks Fit width, Page View, Read aloud, notes, and other features that Microsoft is working on to add to the new Edge browser.
Current Edge browser available in Pre-release channels packed with a lot of PDF features. For instance, it contains a highlighter tool that allows text highlighting in a PDF document with Yellow, Green, Red, Light Blue, and Pink colors.
Recently Microsoft confirmed it is planning to add text notes, table of contents for PDFs, as of today, in Edge Canary 84, the company added another PDF feature requested by users.

Enable Read aloud for PDF files in Microsoft Edge browser
1. Launch Microsoft Edge Canary and ensure you’re using version 84.0.512.0 or later
2. Vist edge://flags/#edge-read-aloud-pdf
3. Select Enabled for ” Read aloud in PDF” flag

4. Restart the browser.
Using Read aloud
1. In New Edge browser, load any PDF
2. Click on the “Read aloud” option on the toolbar for Edge to start reading text in PDF document for you.
Edge allows you to set a speed for reading from Slow to Fast, the default is Normal. PDF Viewer lets you select the desired voice from the voices available, you need to click on Voice options to see these options.

You need to click on the ‘x’ icon at the end of the toolbar for the Edge to stop reading the document.
