You can’t uninstall Chromium-based Microsoft Edge Stable from Windows 10

Microsoft doesn’t want you to remove its Chromium-based Edge browser in Windows 10, so it neither lists it in Control Panel’s Programs and Features nor allows to uninstall from Apps & Features in the Settings App.

Last time we’ve covered new Microsoft Edge stable kills Classic Edge and Windows 10 makes it harder to discover the latter. As of today also, the Operating System no longer lists Legacy Edge in Start menu when you search for it, now you can’t uninstall Chromium Edge stable if you install albeit not available officially on Microsoft Edge Insider homepage.

Note: Edge Insider website currently offers Beta, Dev and Canary channels of Edge for testing, but you can also able to download and install Edge stable version from here.

Previously when we installed Edge release version we can able to uninstall it like any application by visiting Programs and Features in Control Panel or by visiting Settings > Apps & Features, where for Microsoft Edge, Settings app displays Modify and Uninstall options, this is not the case in Windows 10 version 1903 running build 18362.418.

Currently, Settings App grays out Modify and Uninstall buttons for Microsoft Edge stable, you can’t find it listed in the Classic Control Panel to uninstall (check the below screenshot).

The Start menu, which lists Microsoft Edge as recently Installed, does offer uninstall option in right-click menu but it takes to Programs and Features where you won’t find Edge to remove. We can able to uninstall Beta or dev or Canary version of Edge but not the stable version.

Chromium Edge is not the built-in component of Windows 10 like its predecessor, when the app is installable it should be uninstallable also.

The Hunter mode button of Revo Uninstaller also fails to find and display Microsoft Edge for advanced uninstall. Expect this to hold true for new Edge when Microsoft launches the release version. At the moment, the only solution seems possible is using the system restore.
