Google blocks Meet in Chromium Edge [Fix]

Google Meet officially supported browsers are Google Chrome and Firefox, while Meet still works in Chromium-based Opera, but not in Edge and Vivaldi that use the Blink engine. If you visit Meet website in new Edge dev/canary browser, you’ll be asked to use Chrome or Firefox to join video meeting.

Meet doesn't work on your browser Chromium Edge

Microsoft’s aim of switching to Blink/Chromium is to make all websites compatible and work in Edge, now that move wasted (too early to say), but real in case of Google Meet website.

If you now visit Meet in dev or Canary versions of Edge you’ll be asked to download and  install latest Chrome or Firefox to use it.: ” Meet doesn’t work on your browser. To join the video meeting Install the current version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.”

By changing the user agent to “Chrome-Windows” you can get Meet working in Edge, here is how.

Set Google Meet to work in Chromium Edge browser

1. Press F12 to bring up developer tools or click on Settings and more > More tools > Developer Tools

2. Click on Customize and control dev tools, More tools > Network conditions

3. Uncheck “select automatically’ for user agent and choose “Chrome-windows”.

change Chromium Edge user agent for Google Meet

4. Reload website to see Meet now working.

Google Meet working again in Microsoft Edge browser

We’ve seen Microsoft do this to Firefox for Skype on Web and Github and Google to Vivaldi for Google Drive. Microsoft, its time to change the user agent to Windows Chrome for Google Meet in Chromium Edge.

What your take on this? [Thanks to JezCorden]
