Chrome is getting scrollable tab bar, Google confirms

Like in Firefox, soon you can able to scroll through tabs in Chrome, Chrome developer confirmed they’re working on a scrollable tab strip for Google browser, however, he has not mentioned when it will be available.

If you open too many tabs in Chrome browser, the more tabs you open, the smaller they get –tab size gets reduced and the title disappears–and you couldn’t identify which tab a particular one in a number of tabs, Firefox has not this problem as it maintains a minimum width of 76 pixels per tab, after a certain number of tabs, Firefox automatically hides the tabs from UI behind scroll arrows in left and right of tab bar and suggests user number of tabs available behind them and allows to scroll.

Google Chrome lacks tab scrolling and minimum tab width, this has been asked by a user on Reddit.

Chrome to get scrollbale tab bar

tabs scrollable in Firefox

“Chrome and Firefox handle tabs differently. The more tabs you open the smaller the tabs will become. Chrome will display All tabs on top of your browser. If you have many tabs opened in Fire fox you can scroll through tabs from left to right.

I have many tabs opened in Chrome. Clicking on those tiny tabs is really annoying. Is there a way to make them bigger and let them scroll or any other solution so that I don’t have to click on super tiny tabs”

Scrollable tab strip for Chrome is in the works

Developer Peter Kasting who works on Chrome UI said “scrollable tabstrip is in the works. In the meantime, try shift-clicking and ctrl-clicking to select multiple tabs at once, then drag out to separate Windows to group tabs by Window.”

We’re expecting this as the related bug, the ‘UI: tab overflow’ bug created 10 years back, reports opening too many tabs causes add tab button (+) to disappear and tabs do not scroll then, the expected result has been mentioned as ‘scrollable tabs’.

One user on another bug, that has been marked as duplicate and merged into the above, says ” Having recently migrated from Firefox I prefer their UI, each tab has a minimum size (to ensure we can see the icon and text), and when the user opens too many tabs, he/she allowed to scroll left/right.

The Firefox UI limits the user makes it difficult to select icons that are outside of view (meaning you can only really select 15 tabs at a time,) but with Chrome I can’t even do that”, he regrets and asks why Chrome doesn’t allow to set minimum tab size.
