Microsoft acknowledged in a support document that Windows 10 Pro for workstations running on devices that were configured to use Persistent memory, will have unexpected “slow startup “and “increased CPU usage” for a short time after the startup, the Redmond software giant said this is a known issue and “will be addressed in future Windows releases that will provide additional optimizations in startup path”.

For the uninitiated, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, is another Windows 10 edition that is available and you can upgrade your Windows 10 Home or Pro to workstations edition via Microsoft Store app by paying $125. Just search for “Pro” in Microsoft Store and you’ll see the upgrade option.
“After you configure a Windows-based computer to use large amounts of memory, including persistent memory, the computer takes longer than expected time to startup. Additionally, increased CPU usage occurs for a short time after startup”.
Microsoft notes in the support document that “startup performance is affected only if persistent memory is used in memory mode. If the persistent memory is used as a storage device, system startup time is not affected.”
Microsoft says the issue also affects Windows Server loT 2019 standard, Windows Server loT 2019 Datacenter, Windows Server 2019 Standard, Windows Server 2019 Datacenter, Windows 10 Server 2016 Standard, Windows 10 Server Datacenter.
