After Chrome 76, Mozilla Firefox 69 disables Flash by Default

Browser vendors informing users that Flash is going away, we’ve covered Chrome 76 disabled Flash by default and showing depreciation notice for the same to users, Mozilla began the process as per their Flash roadmap, they’ve now disabled Flash Plugin by default in Firefox 69, which is currently in Nightly.

In 2017, Adobe announced they will kill Flash player by end of December 2020, Google, Mozilla, and Microsoft readied Flash support roadmap for their Chrome, Firefox, and  Edge browsers. As we said above, Chrome 76 currently in beta, already set Flash content setting to “Block”, instead of “Ask first” and showing “Flash Player will no longer be supported after December 2020” message to users who override that setting.

New Microsoft Edge based on Chromium inheriting and is exhibiting same behavior for Flash now, Microsoft Edge team recently did an AMA on Reddit and said there is no change of plans regarding Flash Support for Edge browsers.

Flash plugin options in Firefox 69

Now, Mozilla removed “Always Activate” and “Remember this decision” options in Firefox 69 for Flash Plugin. As a result, the Always Activate option for Flash plugin in about:add-ons in plugins section will no longer appear from now on and Flash’s click-to-activate setting will now become “Ask to Activate”.

” Remember this decision” in Flash click-to-activate door hanger is also going to disappear and Firefox will prompt user every time in each browsing session when a site wants to activate flash in browser.

Do note as long as Firefox supports Flash, Firefox continues to block dangerous and intrusive Flash content and enables Flash Player protected mode by default.
