Versions prior to Windows 10 1809 allowed users to disable immersive context menus that appear on desktop and File Explorer, no longer that’s possible in October 2018 update and the registry trick that worked before in Windows 10 version 1803 is not working, thanks to Microsoft for making the unwanted user changes.
You can no longer disable immersive Context menus on Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809)
For uninitiated, Windows 10 sports wide context menu and allowed to get classic appearance look like that of dialogs in Windows 7 or Windows 8 by making change to the registry.
- Open Registry Editor
- Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\FlightedFeatures
or just paste above command in the address bar. - Create a new DWord 32-bit value named
ImmersiveContextMenu
and keep its value as 0 - Restarting the Explorer or Windows brings back Windows 7/8 like context menus in Windows 10.
This registry tweak has worked in Windows 10 April 2018 Update and is no longer functioning in October 2018 Update.
We remember Microsoft making significant changes to context menus three years back in 10532 insider build, read Windows 10 build 10532 improves Context Menus and we’re sharing the screenshot from that article below.
“We’ve heard the feedback about the consistency of menus within Windows 10. so we’ve made some changes to improve these and give them a modern look and feel”.
Are you missing customization control which Microsft has taken away regard to this change?
