Fix Windows 10 KB3189866 update download stuck

Last updated on September 15, 2016 By Venkat

Microsoft has released Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 1607 (KB3189866) and is available for download via the Window Update. For some, the update download was stuck at some figure. Instead of relying on Windows Update, you can visit Microsoft Update Catalog site in Internet Explorer, search for  that Update, download and install on your computer without wasting time, here is how that can be done.

“…click on the Download button, browse and choose the download location for updates to be downloaded to your computer…” How do I know what location to choose for downloading updates to my computer?

You can navigate to a location on your computer and select that could be any: desktop or folder in any drive, when you click browse.

Why do you suggest IE for downloading this update? This is just an .msu file that you can download using any browser

Nonetheless MS always sucks at win 10 update. Ate all my bandwidth and stuck at 95%.

    god damn it. Screw MS

Its not me suggesting, that’s only option left to download Windows updates in standalone fashion from Microsoft Update Catalog site till now as that site requires ActiveX control to be installed to run.

After downloaded update and ran it, I got the pop up with the following:
    Windows Update Standalone Installer
    Installer encountered an error: 0x800706be
    The remote procedure call failed.

    Thoughts? Help?

have done this like a million times over. Yet the update menu keeps on redownloading it and restarting the PC. do not really find a way to get rid of it!

Has the update installed successfully on your computer? What is update history saying?
